lisa and i were good friends. at times this really pissed sarah off. they never really got on. i can’t remember a happy moment spent with us all together. sarah had made-up some excuse to avoid meeting-up for lisa’s birthday. to some extent everyone was relieved...lisa and i had a drink in town and walked home via the tow-path. the stars were out. lisa knew their proper names. i was a bit in awe of her.
lisa was capable of being deep and philosophical (too much perhaps) but also had a nice spin on life. that evening she told me she’d been reading something about having funerals in outer space...i immediately thought the idea sounded grotesque, but she went on to say...

it should be possible to transport a body up into space and then drop it back to earth...of course in the process the body will burn-up as it enters the earth’s atmosphere....leaving a bright trail akin to a shooting star....

there was something in it. everytime i see a shooting star it reminds me of that evening. it certainly seems a far more fitting way to remember the people i love...better than the horrible clunk of the coffin in the crematorium.
